Device clock out of sync: error when signing in with Apple

Sign in with Apple fails when the iPhone clock is more than 10 minutes off. Turn on Set Automatically in Settings → General → Date & Time and try again.

The message appears at the top of the sign-in screen after you tap Continue with Apple:

Your device clock is out of sync. Go to Settings → General → Date & Time and enable "Set Automatically".

Why the clock matters

Sign-in checks the time on your phone. If it differs from the real time by more than 10 minutes, the server rejects the sign-in as invalid, and VocaLingo can't let you in. This often happens after a manual time change, a trip across time zones or a dead battery.

How to fix it on iPhone

  1. Open the phone's Settings.

  2. Go to General → Date & Time.

  3. Turn on Set Automatically. Check that the time zone is correct.

  4. Go back to VocaLingo and tap Continue with Apple again.

If the error stays

  • The Set Automatically switch is grey and can't be turned on. It may be locked by Screen Time or by a work profile on the phone. Ask whoever manages these restrictions, or set the exact time by hand.

  • The time is set automatically but still wrong. Turn airplane mode on and off, or restart the phone, so it gets the time from the network again.

  • You need to get in right now. Sign in with your email code or with Continue with Google. Keep in mind that a different email means a different, separate account.

If the code doesn't arrive, see login code didn't arrive. If nothing helps, write to support, the form works without signing in.
