What VocaLingo Chat can do: files, search, images, voice
The Chat tab is an AI assistant: 12 models plus Auto. It reads files, searches the web, draws images, runs code and talks by voice. Each message costs tokens.

Open the Chat tab and write a message the way you would to a person. The AI decides on its own when to search the web, read a link, run code or draw a picture: there are no mode switches to turn on.
What you can ask the chat to do
VocaLingo Chat handles ordinary text tasks and also works with your files, links and the VocaLingo tools.

How to start a chat
Open the Chat tab.
Type a message, or tap one of the suggestions in an empty chat, for example What can you do? or Translate a voice note.
Tap Send. Before the first message the app asks for permission to send your files and text to AI services. Without it the chat does not work.
The model is shown under the VocaLingo AI title at the top. By default it is Auto, which picks a model for each message. To start over, tap the new chat icon at the top right or open ⋮ and choose New chat.
In the iOS and Android app you can also open the chat from a long press on the VocaLingo icon (Chat) or with the share menu item Ask VocaLingo, which sends a file or link from another app straight into the chat.
How much the chat costs
Each answer is paid for with tokens from your balance. The price depends on the model, the length of the chat and the tools the AI used: web search, image generation and running code add their own small amounts. Cheap answers cost a fraction of a token; fractions add up and are charged as whole tokens. You need a positive balance to send a message. Prices for each model are in token prices for each tool.
What the chat cannot do
A chat has a length limit. When it is reached, the chat stops accepting messages and you start a new one. See chat limit reached.
There is no screen where you can view or edit what the AI remembers about you. Ask the AI itself to show or change it.
Maps show places, but the chat does not build routes.
Voice mode does not create images and does not accept files.
Without Premium only the last 3 chats are kept in history.
A file download from the chat stops if you minimize the app. Keep VocaLingo open until it finishes.
Frequently asked questions
Can the chat use the VocaLingo tools for me?
Partly. In the chat you can transcribe, translate and analyze audio, clone a voice, send a video for translation and download a video by link. For dubbing with settings, captions and other tools the chat suggests opening the tool itself.
Does the chat know how VocaLingo works?
Yes. The chat reads this help center when you ask about the app, so you can ask it about prices, limits or where a setting is.
