VocaLingo notifications: what arrives and how to turn on

VocaLingo notifies you when a video job is ready, when the chat replies while you're away, about reminders and token top-ups. Turn them on in Settings → Notifications.

Notifications matter most for long jobs. Translating or captioning a video can take several minutes, and you don't have to keep the app open while it works: VocaLingo tells you when the result is ready.

Occasional reminders about the app

Translate audio and Voice Changer don't send notifications: their results come quickly and appear on screen. Notifications arrive in the app language.

How to turn notifications on

  1. Open the Settings tab.

  2. Find Notifications ("Practice reminders, video-ready alerts, and chat replies when you are away from the app") and turn on the switch.

  3. Allow notifications in the system window that opens.

If you refused notifications before, the switch opens VocaLingo in your phone settings instead. Turn on notifications there and come back to the app. The app also asks for permission by itself at moments when a notification would help, for example when you start a video job or ask the chat for a reminder.

How to turn notifications off

When notifications are on, the switch in Settings stays on and can't be turned off from the app. Turn them off in the phone settings:

  • iPhone: Settings → Notifications → VocaLingo → Allow Notifications.

  • Android: Settings → Apps → VocaLingo → Notifications.

The app has no separate switches for each type of notification: they are either all on or all off.

Notifications on iPhone, Android and the web

PlatformHow notifications work

iPhone

Regular notifications. From app version 1.74, video jobs show their progress in a Live Activity on the lock screen, and then you don't get a separate notification when the job is done.

Android

Regular notifications.

Web

Browser notifications, only at web.vocalingo.app. Allow them when the browser asks. If you blocked them, allow notifications for the site in the browser's site settings.

When an email comes instead

If a notification about a finished job can't be delivered, for example because notifications are off, VocaLingo sends the same news by email. Translate Video and Add Captions always send an email when the video is ready, even if the notification came through.

If notifications are on but don't arrive, see notifications not arriving.
