How to record audio in VocaLingo
Tap Record audio, speak, then tap Done. The recording has no time limit and goes straight into the tool, which starts processing by itself.

Recording in the app saves you a step when there is no file yet: dictate a note, record a conversation or capture a lecture, and the tool gets the sound right away.

How to record
Open the tool on the Tools tab, for example Text Transcription.
Tap Record audio.
The first time, allow microphone access when the phone or browser asks.
Speak. The screen shows Recording..., a timer and a sound wave.
Tap Done to finish, or Cancel to throw the recording away.
After Done, Audio Translation, Text Transcription and Text Analysis start processing by themselves; there is no extra button. In Voice Changer you choose a voice next. To record again, tap Re-record.
How long a recording can be
The recorder has no time limit, but there is no pause button either: one take from start to Done. The recorded file follows the same rule as any audio file, up to 100 MB.
In Audio Translation a recording shorter than one second is rejected with "Recording is too short. Please record at least 1 second."
For a long lecture or meeting it is safer to record with the phone's own voice recorder and then add the file or send it to VocaLingo through the share menu. If something interrupts the session, the recording stays on the phone.
How to get a clean recording
Keep the phone 15 to 20 cm from the speaker and do not cover the microphone with your fingers.
Turn off music and the TV: background sound makes recognition worse.
At a lecture, sit closer to the speaker or put the phone on the desk in front of them.
If the recording does not start
Most often the microphone permission was denied earlier. Turn it back on in the system settings:
iOS: Settings, Privacy & Security, Microphone, VocaLingo.
Android: Settings, Apps, VocaLingo, Permissions, Microphone.
Web: allow the microphone for web.vocalingo.app in the browser's site settings.
If the browser cannot record at all, the app shows "Audio recording is not supported on this device". Try another browser or the iOS or Android app. More cases are in microphone or camera access denied.

Can I record a spoken reply to a translated message?
Yes, in Audio Translation. On the translation tab, under What next?, tap Record a reply.
